Harrogate Cenotaph Centenary
Harrogate’s War Memorial was unveiled on 1 September 1923. The Cenotaph Centenary is being celebrated with an exhibition, movies and a series of illustrated talks.
Derek Shelmerdine is delivering two of those talks. They trace the development of popular music from the First World War, to the birth of The Beatles.
The first talk looks at how popular music developed from 1914 to the birth of rock’n’roll.

The second talk looks at the music and cultural influence that the American soldiers brought when they arrived in the UK in 1942 and how popular music developed and gave the world The Beatles when John Lennon met Paul McCartney on 6 July 1957.

Book Signing at Harrogate RECORD FAIR
The quarterly Harrogate Record Fair will be in town again on 21 October.
Derek Shelmerdine will be there with albums and singles from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s and also to sign copies of his book Rock’n’Roll Unravelled.
